The inventor found that melanomatissue samples stained positive for this newly identified extracellular target, while normal melanocytes (as well as keratinocytes and fibroblasts are completely negative.The correlation of expression of this protein could be used as a marker or as a novel therapeutic target for metastatic melanoma
