Title:   Real-Time Reliable Multicast Techniques and Protocols for the Internet Using a Hybrid of Forward Error Correction (FEC) and Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ)
Inventor:   Daniel Rubenstein, James Kurose, and Don Towsley
Summary:   The present majority of multicast protocols are ineffective at delivering real-time data streams without additional receivers or router support. Present protocols, therefore, become more complex, expensive, less secure, and more open to long delays in data transferal. This new method simplifies and reduces the cost of large data transfer by using a single source of Forward Error Correction (FEC) and an Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) to transmit and modulate all data and repairs.
