Summary:		The technique allows for the integration of work ahead smoothing with differential caching to handle a system storage and asset heterogeneity, thereby allowing the computing of a globally optimal transmission schedule. This approach takes advantage of the presence of additional resources in other parts of a network multicast distribution tree. The software is application aware and smooths the streaming video transmission schedule by riding on top of network level multicast primitives and uses Unicast communication modes. The software utilizes standard internet multicast protocols with proprietary algorithms and is designed for variable bit rate compressed video distribution. The technique works with or without underlying multicast capability in a network.
