IP Type:   Licensable Technology
Title:   Traction Force Microscopy
Inventor:   Dembo, Micah
Summary:   The technology is a software package that computes the forces exerted by a cell on its underlying surface by analyzing images of the cell and its substrate taken with phase and fluorescent microscopy. The forces exerted by the cell are referred to as cellular tractions, the technique used to obtain the image data is aptly named the Elastic Substratum Method (ESM), and the software package used to compute and graph these forces is referred to as Traction Imaging Microscopy (TIM). The TIM software package has three major components (1) the experimental determination of the precise manner by which the substratum deforms under the action of the cell; (2) interpreting the substrate deformations in terms of forces exerted by different regions of the cell; (3) an expansive graphics package which allows visualization of the traction and substrate deformation fields.
