The technology describes the use of selctive H2 antagonists, such as Tagamet and Zantac, which are all now off-patent, to treat gingivitis and periodontal disease when applied in a topical formulation such as a mouthwash or a dentifrice. Phase II clinical trials have been successfully completed.
