Title:   Plastic Microfluidic Chip for Isolation of Nucleic Acids from Biological Samples
Inventor:   Klapperich, Catherine M
Summary:   Researchers in the Laboratory for Biomedical Materials Research at Boston University are developing and testing a point-of-care, disposable plastic microfluidic chip based system for solid phase extraction and isolation of biomolecules from biological samples. The inventors have reduced the invention to practice in the field of DNA isolation using specific materials and manufacturing methods. However this technology can be varied on several levels (e.g., chip and monolith materials, use of other UV transparent polymeric materials, fabrication methods, etc.) and can be applied to isolation of other biomolecules.
