Title:   A Dialysis Graft Offering a Customized Fit and Flow Rate
Inventor:   Wu, Steven
Summary:   Technology: Incorporating an adjustable and locking ring-like device to an existing dialysis access graft this invention allows for the control of blood flow through the graft, thereby limiting most of the common problems that lead to dialysis graft revision surgery. Applications: This invention can be manufactured for installation on existing grafts or can be incorporated into the graft itself. The device can be manufactured as a one-time, set it and forget it type, or it could be made for dynamic, under the skin, adjustment over the lifetime of the patient. Advantages: By altering the flow dynamics through the graft, hyperplasia is minimized at the venous end of the graft. By allowing the surgeon the ability to adjust the flow rate prior to closing or even post-operatively, you all but eliminate the potential for the development of steal syndrome or other problems associated with an undersized graft that develop months after surgery. By allowing the surgeon the ability to adjust the flow through the graft, specific to each patient cost reductions can be achieved by: - Allowing manufacturers to reduce product SKUs; - Allowing hospitals to minimize inventory and stocking of multiple brands.
