IP Type:   Licensable Technology
Title:   A Melt Control System for Injection Molding Using a Spool Valve
Inventor:   David Kazmer
Summary:   This technology is a method as well as an apparatus for proportioning flow and controlling pressure at the gate of an injection mold. The invention decouples the control surface from the gate closure to reduce the required actuation force. This is done through a spool valve that permits the meeting of the plastic melt at multiple points in an injection mold, but requires much less power for actuation and also produces much less shear degradation. Methods for estimating the pressure and flow rate entering the injection mold are also included.
